On The Road Again....

Kenny is on his way to Jacksonville, FL for the next Krystal Square Off Qualifier which is going to be really exciting. Joey Chesnut, Crazy Legs Conti and Hall Hunt are slated to compete. But don't forget about our webcam which will be broadcasting all the 2 minute qualifiers and the finals. Go to www.krystalsquareoff.com for times.

In honor of the Krystal Square Off tour I have included a funny video I found of someone seeing how fast they can stuff a Krystal in their mouth. Obviously this guy is in training for one of the Krystal Square Off qualifiers.....

View From the Square Off Splash Zone

A few hours have passed since we wrapped up the opening weekend of the 2006 Krystal Square Off, so I have had a little bit of time to reflect. We witnessed some amazing things, most notably Sonya Thomas' performance this afternoon in the local finals. Sonya never faced any real challenges in this contest, but she still pushed herself to a personal best and to tie the American Record of 62 Krystals. I had the honor of being Sonya's judge today, which means I was only a couple feet away as she ate. It blew me away.

I've witnessed some outstanding eating from the splash zone in front of the table... Sonya edging out Joey Chestnut 57 Krystals to 56 in the 05 Chattanooga Qualifier, Joey downing 62 Krystals in the 05 Championship but falling short as Kobayashi devoured 67. Today was something special, though. Those efforts were amazing, but the big numbers were put up facing a big time competitor. Today Sonya's competitor wasn't standing at the table, he was sitting in Japan (maybe watching on the webcam). Today Sonya made a statement to Kobayashi and to Joey. The willpower and focus on display were unsurpassed. If she can put up a 62 without any real threat at the table with her, I can't wait to see what she can do when she is eating Krystals next to the top eaters in the world.

Sonya has definitely raised the bar. I can't wait to see what kind of numbers Joey, Humble Bob, Bertoletti, and the other top eaters can put up this year. Speaking of which, stay tuned to the Square Off site for info on who is eating in the upcoming Square Off Qualifiers.

The Krystal Square Off Tour Has Begun!

Well folks, our first day of Krystal Square Off III is completed but the fun has only started. Tommorow we will be at another location at our Hixson restaurant (See our store locator for more details) I must say after being in the sun all day I'm about as red as the trailor behind our boss, Brad Wahl. But the webcam looked good and everything worked out great. (So basically those moments when I woke up in a sweat worrying if the webcam would work actually paid off) We had a lot of college students from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga come out to compete with the Champion being Josh Neal who ate 12 Krystals in 2 minutes. I'm excited to see who will be competing in the finals on Sunday. I've heard a competitive eating celebrity may be attending.

OK I CAN'T keep this secret any longer. Sonya Thomas has confirmed that she will be competing in the Chattanooga finals on Sunday. For those of you who are unaware, Sonya is the female Krystal record holder. It will truly be exciting to see how many she will eat. Folks, ITS ON!!!!!!!! Stay tuned for more Krystal Square Off action from the road.

The Opening Ceremonies Are Here!

Ok so now I'm writing my first true moblog.

We are on sight today for the opening ceremonies for the Krystal Square Off in Chattanooga, TN. The festitivities start around noon and those of you who can't come and be a part of the fun go to www.krystalsquareoff.com and look at our brand new webcam. The Qualifying Tour will be in Chattanooga all weekend so anyone looking to throw their hat in the ring to compete can also go to the Square Off website and get details to compete.

I'll follow up with pictures and more details of the days highlights later on today.... Stay tuned.

My Experience With Snakes On A Plane

Friday was a tough day. Kenny and I took the Supergroup Clan around Chattanooga to test our upcoming Web cam for the Krystal Square Off which kicks off in TWO DAYS!!!! And to say it was hot was an understatement. By the time Kenny and I got back to our offices around 5 p.m. we looked well done to say the least.

I had already planned to see Snakes on a Plane, in homage to our former Krystal Star, Samuel L. Jackson. However, I was exhausted and seriously questioning seeing it on opening night. I was telling this to my husband when he said, "But the opening night will be the BEST! You have to see it tonight!" (This coming from a Star Wars fan that dragged me to EVERY Midnight Opening where I got to stand in line for hours and watch mock light saber fights in the parking lot by people dressed up as Storm Troopers) It must be a Samuel L. Jackson thing....

And as much as I don't like to admit this - he was right.... Snakes on a Plane was AWESOME!!!! It was hilarious and no matter what the media says it will live on as a cult classic. The fans really got into it. People brought rubber snakes into the theatre, and there were rubber snakes in the candy concession counter. And even though I had to look away every now and then, I always came back for more.....See this movie.....and you live...

Krystal Square Off Makes Competitive Eating History...Again

There's some big news that was just released over at KrystalSquareOff.com. We are offering competitive eating fans a free service that will send Square Off results to your cell phone.

As much as we would like for everyone to come out to our events, or at least watch live on the web cam, we know that isn't feasible for everyone. You may live too far away and you may not have the time to sit in front of a computer all weekend. If that's the case, you can have Square Off results texted to you. Don't worry, you won't be getting a text message for all 157 2-minute qualifiers, just the eight 8-minute local finals and the World Championship. The first results update will be sent out August 27, so sign up soon.

A Love Letter to Mega Munch

You know its going to be a good week when the VP of Marketing comes to your cubicle and asks why he is quoted on the blogosphere telling Nathans to "Suck It." Now, I completely understand why I am the person they go to (This is Tiffany writing). I am the one who convinced the Company to allow a blog by us Coordinators, I am the one who touted the benefits of joining the blogosphere (besides the fact that it is a cool way to waste time) and yes, I am the one who is ultimately responsible for anything that may go awry.

Recently, the Mega Munch blog was awesome enough to report on the fact that the Krystal Square Off is the coolest competitive eating competition ever by being the first to offer a webcast NOT ONLY for the Krystal Square Off Eating Championship on October 28th in Chattanooga, TN; but for the entire Qualifying Round which starts a week from today (Located in, You guessed it! Chattanooga, TN)

Now liberties may have been taken in Mega Munch's attempt to point out that we are indeed the first to do this. (I thought his liberties were, in fact, HILARIOUS) But for those of you who have zero sense of irony. The words "Suck it, Nathans!" did not pass from Mike Williams' lips. (He would at least like to keep up the facade of professionalism, rather than let everyone know the truth.)

Now hopefully my career can live to see another day of marketing small square burgers.

Web Hostess Moblog

Julianna taking a picture of Christina

Christina and Julianna in their Krystal Gear!
Ok so the Moblog idea didn't exactly work, but I am offering, if you will, a retrospective moblog instead. As many of our Krystal Lovers know by visiting our website, we have a virtual web hostess that can direct you to some key areas. In true Krystal fashion we decided that the new web hostess should be a true Krystal Lover. However, we were lucky to find two Krystal Lovers up for the task. We found Christina and Julianna during a Tuscaloosa, AL Commercial shoot back in February. In fact you can see their commercial on our website in the Krystal Theater. When we decided to update the web hostess they were our first choice. So we decided to have two web hostesses.
The shoot was last Friday and it was held at the offices of our friends at SuperGroup. (Who have now gotten me completely addicted to Swedish Fish. Oh, by the way, my waistline thanks you) Their offices are a virtual land of fun including every video game from the 1970's. (Except for Galaga and Ms. Pacman-the only ones I know how to play....)
Anyways the new hostesses should be up in a few weeks so everyone be sure to keep on web hostess alert!

Found! Krystal Lover Box

As part of my Xtreme Cheese Combo yesterday I found one of Jason Jennette's Hall of Fame boxes at the Broad Street restaurant. Score 1 for Tiffany!

I'm going to Atlanta to film the newest Krystal website hostesses so I'm going to try to Moblog from the road.

More fun to come.

Krystal Square Off Makes Competitive Eating History

A big announcement is being made today at KrystalSquareOff.com. In a move that is unprecidented in the world of competitive eating, we are going to be webcasting each and every contest on the entire Square Off tour. That includes all 157 2-minute qualifying contests, 8 local 8-minute finals, and the World Championship.

Despite the best efforts of the good folks at EatFeats (formerly Trencherwomen.com), Beautiful Brian, Urban Honking, and others, results are often slow in getting released. That isn't going to be the case with the Square Off this year. Results are going to be available instantly because competitive eating fans around the world can watch each contest live.

This feature will be especially fun when the top eaters try their hand at 2-minute qualifiers. It seems that when Joey Chestnut broke the 2-minute Krystal Eating Record it inspired some of his colleagues to give it a shot as well. Humble Bob is planning to give it a shot, and there are rumors flying that other eaters will do it as well. These attempts at breaking the record will be available for the world to see.

If you don't have the time to sit around watching webcasts of 160+ contests, we are going to have some other ways to stay up to date on the results. Stay tuned for details.
